Man Arrested in Connection to Shooting Death of Uncle in Quitman

QUITMAN, Ga. (WCTV) – A man has been taken into custody by authorities in Quitman following the tragic shooting death of his uncle, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Jonah Kenney, aged 27, is facing serious charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a crime in relation to what the GBI has officially classified as a homicide. The victim, 56-year-old Jed Maichele, tragically lost his life in this incident.

The events unfolded around 8 p.m. on Wednesday when Brooks County 911 received several distress calls reporting a shooting in the 1800 block of Blaire Road. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered Maichele suffering from gunshot wounds. He was swiftly transported to Brooks County Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities determined that Kenney, who is identified as Maichele’s nephew, was directly involved in the incident. The GBI reported that Kenney was apprehended in the vicinity by a Georgia State Trooper for unrelated traffic violations.
