Tragic Accident Claims Another Life in Hendersonville

A devastating incident occurred on March 13 on U.S. 64 East in Hendersonville, where a pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by a vehicle. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the victim, identified as John William Spinx III, 32, of Hendersonville, was walking in the passing lane of the highway when the accident occurred near the intersection of Cornwalls Lane and U.S. 64 East.

Details of the Incident

Trooper Eric Noblett of the N.C. Highway Patrol’s Hendersonville office provided insight into the tragic event. The call came in at 10:21 p.m., highlighting the late-night nature of the accident. Noblett mentioned that the driver involved will not face any charges, as the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and walking in the middle of the roadway, making him difficult to spot in the darkness.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

This unfortunate incident marks the fourth pedestrian fatality in Henderson County since September 2023 and the second pedestrian death this year on U.S. 64 in Hendersonville. In a heartbreaking sequence of events, the community has witnessed multiple lives lost in similar circumstances. Just over a month ago, a male pedestrian was killed on the east side of the bridge over Interstate 26, adding to the growing list of pedestrian-related tragedies in the area.

Tragically, this incident follows the death of Dustin Grant Byrnside, 44, who was struck and killed on Spartanburg Highway in Hendersonville on October 30. Prior to Byrnside’s death, Doris “Ann” Ponder, 72, lost her life while trying to cross U.S. 64, not far from North Henderson High School.
