Man Arrested in Bollinger County in Connection with Cape Girardeau Shooting Incident
CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) – A man wanted in connection with an investigation into shots fired outside of a Cape Girardeau convenience store was arrested in Bollinger County.

Jerrod Willis, 29, faced charges of first-degree assault or attempt – serious physical injury or special victim, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.
Following a tip-off from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office Task Force, the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Willis on Wednesday, March 13. Willis had an active arrest warrant out of Cape Girardeau County.
Law enforcement officials and task force members strategically positioned themselves throughout Bollinger County to intercept Willis’s movements. They successfully stopped him on Missouri Highway 51 South, where he was taken into custody without incident.
According to court records, the incident in Cape Girardeau took place at a local convenience store on March 10. Witnesses reported seeing Willis enter the store brandishing an “AR-style” rifle and making threatening remarks towards a customer. The situation escalated when the customer, who was also armed, defended himself by drawing his handgun.
The customer claimed that Willis then fled the scene in a yellow Corvette, with the customer firing his weapon in self-defence. Despite the customer’s reluctance to press charges, law enforcement was able to gather evidence and surveillance footage of the altercation.
Willis is currently being held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond. He appeared in court via video on Thursday, March 14, where he waived his formal arraignment. A counsel status hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 21.
