Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of De Leon Biker

A devastating motorcycle accident took place earlier this week in Comanche County, Texas, resulting in the tragic death of a biker. The incident occurred on Farm to Market Road 1496, approximately 6 miles east of the small town of De Leon.

Details of the Crash

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 7:20 p.m. on March 13, under clear weather and dry road conditions. The collision involved a 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle and a 2000 Freightliner truck tractor towing a 2015 MAS semi-trailer.

The biker involved in the crash was identified as 56-year-old James Dean Roden from De Leon, Texas. Tragically, Roden was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and was pronounced dead at Texas Health Hospital at 9:16 p.m. by Justice of the Peace David Martin.

Reports indicate that Roden crossed into the oncoming southbound lane, striking the left side of the towed trailer of the truck. The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Francisco Javier Carrasco Ortega from Del Bosque, Mexico, was wearing his seatbelt and thankfully did not sustain any injuries.

Investigation Details

Preliminary investigations suggest that Roden failed to maintain his lane, leading to the fatal collision. The posted speed limit on FM 1496 is 60 miles per hour, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
