Edgewater community mourns tragic loss of 11-year-old boy in violent attack

CHICAGO – The Edgewater community on the North Side of Chicago is reeling from the devastating loss of 11-year-old Jayden Perkins, who was tragically killed in a violent attack. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, also left his pregnant mother injured.

Residents of the neighbourhood came together on Thursday to honour Jayden’s memory. A memorial was set up outside the apartment complex where the attack occurred, with flowers and balloons placed near a tree as a tribute to the young boy.

Described as kind and helpful by his classmates, Jayden was known for his participation in school plays and his friendly nature. His sudden and senseless death has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him.

“I miss him,” said Mason Hamm, a classmate of Jayden. “It’s not going to be the same without him.”

Suspect in custody with a history of violence

Chicago police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the attack, identified as a 37-year-old man with a history of violence and domestic abuse. The suspect, who was recently released from prison, is believed to have broken into the family’s home in Edgewater, resulting in the tragic outcome.

Neighbours in the area reported hearing screams and cries for help during the incident, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Jayden’s mother, who was also stabbed multiple times, remains in critical condition in hospital.
