Everett Community College is mourning the loss of beloved basketball coach Chet Hovde, who passed away at the age of 77. Hovde, who dedicated his life to the sport of basketball, was a pillar of the EvCC community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Hovde’s passion for basketball was evident in everything he did. He spent over four decades coaching at EvCC, leading the men’s basketball team to numerous victories and championships. His players respected him not only for his coaching skills, but also for his unwavering dedication to their success both on and off the court.

“Chet was more than just a coach to us, he was a mentor and a friend,” said former player and current assistant coach, Mike Johnson. “He truly lived and breathed basketball, and his love for the game was infectious. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

Hovde’s impact extended far beyond the basketball court. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a listening ear or offer words of encouragement to anyone in need. His presence will be sorely missed by the entire EvCC community.

“Chet was a true legend in every sense of the word,” said EvCC President, Daria Willis. “His passion for basketball was unmatched, and his dedication to his players was unwavering. He leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of athletes.”

The cause of Hovde’s death has not been confirmed at this time. The EvCC community is coming together to support each other during this difficult time, and plans are being made to honor Hovde’s memory in a special way.
