GATES COUNTY MAN ON TERRORIST WATCH LIST ARRESTED AFTER BARRICADE INCIDENT

A man who was apprehended following a barricade situation in Gates County, North Carolina, has been discovered to be on a terrorist watch list and had been residing in the area for six months.

Authorities from the Gates County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots at U.S. 13 South and Barfield Road. Upon arrival, they encountered a man identified as Awet Hagos, who was outside a business discharging a firearm.

Hagos, in a combative state, attempted to disarm a deputy and fled into his residence, initiating a four-hour standoff before being taken into custody. Sheriff Ray Campbell revealed that Hagos resisted arrest aggressively, leading deputies to use a Taser multiple times during the altercation.

Formal charges against Hagos include three counts of assault on a government official, three counts of resisting a public officer, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
