Tragic Discovery: Missing Man Found Deceased Along Interstate 80

A volunteer search group from New Castle made a heartbreaking discovery on Tuesday when they found a man who had been reported missing, deceased along Interstate 80. The man was identified as Devin M. Habib, 37, who had ties to the New Castle area.

Search Efforts

Marcia Black and her husband, Chris, who lead the Walkers Volunteer Search Party, received information about Habib’s disappearance from his family. Acting on this information, they began searching for him along Interstate 80 where he was last seen. The search took place on Tuesday evening, and it was during this search that they came across the tragic scene.

Discovery of the Deceased

While driving along Interstate 80 between 5:30 and 6 p.m., Marcia and Chris Black spotted a man lying in a grassy median strip between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Upon closer inspection, they confirmed that the man was Habib. It was a shocking and devastating moment for the search group.

Police Involvement

The Pennsylvania State Police in Mercer County, along with Coroner John Libonati, are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Habib’s death. It is believed that he was struck by a westbound vehicle and suffered fatal injuries during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Closure of the Highway

Following the discovery of Habib’s body, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation had to close a portion of the westbound side of Interstate 80 for several hours. This closure was necessary for the police investigation into the tragic incident. The highway was later reopened to traffic.
