FULTON TOWNSHIP, Wis. – Man Arrested for Homicide of 8-Year-Old Family Member

A 20-year-old Wisconsin man is facing charges of homicide after the tragic discovery of the body of an 8-year-old family member in a Rock County home, according to Rock County Sheriff Curtis Fell.

Law enforcement officers were called to a residence on the 5500 block of W. Miles Road in Fulton following a report of a missing child. Despite a thorough search of the home by deputies and a Fulton officer, the child was not initially located.

A extensive search effort, involving deputies, officers, a K-9 team, and a drone team, was then conducted both inside the home and in the surrounding neighbourhood.

Following the detainment of the 20-year-old family member, identified as Dayveon Lathrop, a search warrant was obtained for the residence. A subsequent search uncovered the body of the missing child, with an autopsy confirming the cause of death as homicide.

Lathrop was arrested on Monday and is facing charges of first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse, child neglect causing death, possession of drug paraphernalia, and bail jumping. He is currently undergoing evaluation by authorities.

Sheriff Fell stated that there were no other individuals present at the time of the alleged homicide, and there were no prior reports to law enforcement regarding the victim and the suspect.

Expressing his condolences to the family of the victim and the community, Fell described the incident as a tragic event that has had a profound impact on all involved.

While an official date for the suspect’s initial appearance has not been set, the Rock County District Attorney’s Office anticipates that it will take place on Wednesday.
