Fredericton Police Identify Sterling Hunter, 29, as Human Remains Found at Landfill

Fredericton police have confirmed the identity of the human remains discovered at the landfill on Monday as Sterling Hunter, a 29-year-old man. The investigation into this case is still ongoing, but Police Chief Martin Gaudet revealed that Hunter was homeless and frequently visited shelters. Additionally, Hunter was known to police prior to his death.

Although the police are not treating this case as a homicide at the moment, they have not completely ruled out foul play. Gaudet emphasized that the investigation is continuing to uncover more details surrounding Hunter’s death.

The police were alerted to the discovery of human remains at the landfill at 1775 Allison Blvd. around 10:45 a.m. on Monday by employees. Detectives from the major crime unit conducted an investigation, and Gaudet confirmed that Hunter’s next of kin have been informed of his passing.

Gaudet stated that the human remains were found “partially intact” in the debris section of the landfill, but the exact time of Hunter’s death has not been determined yet.

Body discovered at Fredericton landfill identified

Twenty-nine-year-old Sterling Hunter of Fredericton has been identified as the person found dead at the landfill on Monday morning. Police say the cause of death is still being determined.

The police have been collaborating with local businesses to collect security camera footage. Footage of Hunter was captured around 2:30 a.m. on Monday in the uptown area of Fredericton’s south side. Gaudet urged anyone who may have seen Hunter after this time to come forward and assist the police in their investigation. They are particularly interested in obtaining more surveillance footage showing Hunter’s movements.

The investigation is still ongoing, and Gaudet mentioned that it may take several weeks before the circumstances surrounding Hunter’s death are fully understood.
