The Tragic Incident in Multan

In the early hours of Tuesday, a devastating incident took place in the historic Haram Gate area of Multan. A three-storey house collapsed following a cylinder blast during Sehr time, resulting in the loss of nine lives and injuring two others. The incident shook the peaceful neighbourhood of Mohalla Jawadian, leaving the community in mourning.

The Incident

At approximately 3:30 am, Musarat Bibi, the wife of Naseebur Rehman, was preparing Sehri on the top floor of their family home when a gas cylinder exploded. The force of the blast caused the roof to collapse, trapping all seven family members who were asleep in the adjacent single-storey house. The scene was chaotic as the debris covered the area, and rescue efforts were immediately initiated.

The Victims

The tragedy claimed the lives of seven members of the same family, including Ameer Ali, Komal, Danish, Waseem, Bakhtawar Ameen, Faheem Abbas, and his wife Sanoobar. Naseebur Rehman and his son Abdullah also lost their lives on the spot. Musarat and another son, Waqar, sustained burn injuries and were rushed to Nishtar Hospital in critical condition.

Rescue Operation and Inquiry

Upon receiving the distress call, Rescue 1122 and the district administration swiftly arrived at the scene to commence the rescue operation. District Emergency Officer Dr Kaleemullah stated that out of the 11 people trapped, nine lost their lives, while the two injured individuals were taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Multan Deputy Commissioner Rizwan Qadeer has ordered an inquiry into the building collapse, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Saif.

Ensuring Safety Measures

In light of this tragic event, Multan Commissioner Maryam Khan, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Chaudhry, and City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar visited the site to assess the situation. The RPO mentioned that initial investigations pointed towards a cylinder blast as the cause of the incident. The district administration has pledged to crack down on low-quality cylinders and conduct surveys of potentially dangerous buildings in the city to prevent such incidents in the future.
