Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell disclosed that Casbohm and Feralo were not related to the victim, Douglas Layman, but had been living in his home. The women had previously been authorized by the bank to withdraw money from Layman’s account as long as he was present in the car.

The incident came to light when the women found Layman dead in his home on March 4. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause of his passing.

Chilling Confession

In the recorded phone call, Casbohm allegedly revealed that the victim died on the afternoon of March 4, just before they went to the bank. She explained that Feralo could not lift Layman, prompting them to enlist the help of a male friend. When questioned about why they didn’t alert the authorities, Casbohm callously replied that she decided to go to the bank first and then drop him off at the hospital, forgetting to leave his name.

Both Casbohm and Feralo appeared in Ashtabula Municipal Court, where they waived their right to a preliminary hearing. The cases have now been forwarded to the Ashtabula County grand jury for further deliberation.
