Tragic Head-On Collision Claims Life of Georgetown Man in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal head-on collision that occurred on Sunday evening. The deceased has been named as Guclu Yertut, a 54-year-old resident of Georgetown.

The tragic incident took place on U.S. 17 Alternate near Diamondback Lane, situated approximately one mile south of Jamestown. Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway from the South Carolina Highway Patrol provided details of the collision.

According to reports, Yertut was driving a Kia sedan northbound on U.S. 17 Alternate when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Mitsubishi SUV. The impact of the collision proved fatal for Yertut.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, is currently conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
