Red Deer RCMP Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle

Red Deer, Alberta, RCMP are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday at 5:01 a.m. on Highway 2A between Township Road 391 and Township Road 272. The incident involved a reportedly stolen vehicle and resulted in the death of one man.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the driver and sole occupant of a Ford Focus, a 74-year-old resident of Lacombe, deceased. The two individuals in the other vehicle, a Lincoln MKZ, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Stolen Vehicle and Firearms

Further investigation revealed that the Lincoln MKZ involved in the crash had been reported stolen during a carjacking in Red Deer on March 7. Additionally, authorities found a loaded SKS rifle in a ditch near the scene, which they believe was discarded by the driver after the collision.

Suspect Charged

Authorities have charged Tyler Tyrone Palmantier, a 44-year-old Red Deer resident, with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and three weapons offences. Palmantier remains in police custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Wednesday at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

The passenger in the stolen Lincoln MKZ was released without facing any charges.

Ongoing Investigation

Red Deer RCMP have indicated that the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and additional charges could be forthcoming as more information becomes available.
