The bystander who jumped in to help rescue the lone survivor of a tragic Wisconsin crash says he feels he was placed there for a reason.

Nathanial Jahn was on his way to work on Friday morning when he witnessed a devastating incident unfold on Highway 95 in Western Wisconsin. A van turned into oncoming traffic and collided with a semi-truck, resulting in the loss of nine lives, including both drivers.

Recalling the harrowing moment, Jahn said, “I dug through the debris, listening for any cries and carefully pulling back the wreckage. That’s when I saw a little baby – a two-year-old boy. He was crying, but his limbs were moving, and he was curled up in a fetal position.”

Jahn wasted no time in comforting the young child and ensuring his safety.

The toddler was the sole survivor of the crash, which claimed the lives of his parents, baby sister, grandmother, and two aunts. Both the van driver and the semi-truck driver also perished in the accident.

Reflecting on the incident, Jahn remarked, “I truly believe that I was meant to be there at that moment.”

A former Marine with two tours of duty in Iraq, Jahn credits his military training for giving him the skills and instinct to act swiftly in the face of danger.

Today, Wisconsin authorities have identified the victims as: James K. McCoy, 46; Linda Byler, 44; Lydia Byler, 24; Orla Schrock, 24; Ellen Schrock, 23; Delila Schrock, 21; Suzanna Hertzler, 18; along with a 6-month-old child. The deceased semi-truck driver was named as Daniel Liddicoat.
