GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Arrest Made After Stolen Vehicle Chase and Guns Found

An 18-year-old from Duluth found himself in hot water after a police chase involving a stolen vehicle and guns in Gwinnett County. The incident took place on March 8, when officers in the West Precinct spotted a stolen vehicle with the help of Flock cameras near Peachtree Parkway and Spalding Drive in Peachtree Corners.

Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver decided to make a run for it, engaging in evasive maneuvers to avoid capture. With the Aviation Unit in the area, officers made the strategic decision to back off and let the Aviation Unit track the car from above.

The chase led the authorities to the back of a nearby school, where three individuals exited the stolen vehicle. While the two passengers cooperated with the police and were quickly released, the driver, identified as Shiheen Junnelle Russell, was located and arrested nearby. During the arrest, officers also recovered two guns, one of which was reported stolen along with the vehicle.

Further Details and Charges

After detaining all three individuals for questioning, it was determined that the two passengers were not involved in the incident and were therefore released. Shiheen, on the other hand, faced a laundry list of charges including two counts of Kidnapping, four counts of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission or Attempt of Certain Felonies, Theft of Lost or Mislaid Property, Carrying a Weapon within School Safety Zones, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, Reckless Driving, and multiple other traffic-related charges.

Following his interview, Shiheen was promptly arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail to await further legal proceedings. The swift action taken by the Gwinnett County Police Department serves as a reminder of their commitment to upholding law and order in the community.
