Man Found Dead in Septic Tank in Gaibandha

A tragic incident unfolded in Raghunathpur, Sadar upazila of Gaibandha district, where a 38-year-old man was discovered dead in a septic tank on Monday night. The victim, identified as Shariful Islam Pavel, was the son of Abdus Samad Akondo, who serves as the president of the Ballamjhar Union unit of the Awami League.

Disappearance and Discovery

Pavel had left his home on Saturday and failed to return, prompting his family to file a missing person report. The local police, led by officer-in-charge Masud Rana, launched an investigation into his disappearance. On Monday, a foul odour emanating from the septic tank at the residence of Sirajul Islam raised suspicions. Upon inspection, the authorities uncovered Pavel’s lifeless body submerged in the tank.

Arrests Made

Following the grim discovery, the police arrested three individuals from the house, including two women. Zulfiker Rahman, the chairman of Ballamjhar Union, revealed that a dispute had arisen between Pavel and the arrested individuals over a marriage arrangement. The couple, Shila and Raihan, had eloped and married legally six months prior, leading to a financial agreement being brokered with Pavel. Tensions escalated between the parties involved, culminating in Pavel’s untimely demise.

The shocking development sent shockwaves through the community, as residents grappled with the tragic loss of a prominent figure. Pavel’s untimely death has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones, who mourn the loss of a cherished family member and community leader.
