Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash in Douglas County

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – A single-vehicle rollover crash in Douglas County early Monday morning resulted in one person being taken to a Topeka hospital for treatment of possible injuries, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at 4:45 a.m. on Interstate 70 along the Kansas Turnpike near the K-10 highway exit on the west side of Lawrence.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was travelling east on I-70 when the driver, identified as Kevin Sanchez-Colonga, 20, from Salina, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the car veered off the road to the right, entering the south ditch. The vehicle then became airborne and rolled over.

Manuel Rodriguez-Colonga, 16, also from Salina, was a passenger in the car and was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment of possible injuries. The driver, Kevin Sanchez-Colonga, was reported to have possible injuries, but there was no record of him being taken to the hospital.

Fortunately, both occupants of the vehicle were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
