About the Tragic Incident
Charlotte, also known as the Queen City, recently witnessed a devastating multi-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of two South Mecklenburg high school students. The incident occurred on the 5400 block of Old Pineville Road at Tyvola Road in south Charlotte. The city was left in shock as the community mourned the loss of these young souls.

Details of the Crash
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the scene just before 7 a.m. on Friday, March 8, following reports of a serious collision. Upon arrival, they discovered a severely damaged 2016 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2015 Western Star semi-truck at the intersection. Tragically, two students from South Mecklenburg High School, identified as Kaia Hodge, 18, and Jada Cousins, 17, lost their lives in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck, a 63-year-old individual, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Atrium Health South Park for treatment.
The Investigation
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit revealed that the preliminary findings indicate that Hodge was traveling south on Old Pineville Road when her vehicle collided with the semi-truck attempting to make a left turn onto Tyvola Road. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward and provide any relevant information to assist in the case.

In a heartfelt message to the South Mecklenburg High School community, Principal Angerer expressed profound sadness over the loss of Kaia Hodge and Jada Cousins. The school is offering grief counseling services to support students and staff members during this challenging time. As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the tragic incident.
