Tragic Crash Claims Life of 16-Year-Old Boy in DeKalb County

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 16-year-old boy named Guillermo Aguas-Bahena lost his life in a fatal crash in DeKalb County during the early hours of the morning. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of Northcrest Rd and Chamblee-Tucker Rd around 1:40 a.m., marked the fifth student from the same school to perish in a crash this school year.

Aguas-Bahena, a promising student who was on the brink of graduation, was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Tragically, he did not survive the crash. Two other students who were also in the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. One of the injured students has been identified as Alex Vega by school officials.

The devastating news of Aguas-Bahena’s untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with school officials expressing their heartfelt condolences and offering resources for grief counseling to those affected by the tragedy.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by the family, Aguas-Bahena was accompanied by his brother and a friend in the car at the time of the crash. Sadly, his brother, who remains unnamed, is currently in the intensive care unit fighting for his life.

This recent incident is not the first time Lakeside High School has been struck by such heartbreaking losses. Just weeks ago, 18-year-old Sophie Lekiachvili lost her life in a crash on Oak Grove Road, with two other students sustaining injuries in the same accident. The names of the injured students have not been disclosed.

Tragically, this is not the first time Lakeside High School has faced such tragic losses. In September of last year, three Lakeside students lost their lives in a horrific crash on I-85 when the car they were traveling in careened off a flyover. Two other teens who were not Lakeside students also perished in the same crash.

Cousins Ashley and Katy Gaitan, aged 16 and 17, along with Coral Lorenzo, 17, were among those who tragically lost their lives in the I-85 crash. A memorial still stands in the school’s performing arts center in their honor.
