Fan Charged After Injuring SEC Employee During Women’s Basketball Championship

Police in South Carolina have charged a fan who attended the SEC Women’s Basketball Championship on Sunday after injuring an SEC employee, according to reports from WHNS/Gray News.

The Greenville Police Department stated that during the championship game at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, a physical altercation broke out on the court between players from the University of South Carolina and Louisiana State University. This incident led to several spectators leaping over the wall, causing further chaos, as per authorities.

The fan involved in the incident has been identified as 24-year-old Trayron Milton from Georgia. Interestingly, Milton is the brother of LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson, as reported by the Associated Press.

According to police reports, Milton attempted to jump over the barrier wall and ended up injuring the employee who was seated at the scorer’s table near the court edge. Milton allegedly pushed down on the victim’s head from behind and stepped on her shoulders to clear the table, authorities revealed.

Trayron Milton has been charged with assault and battery, third degree, as well as disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.

The altercation began with just over two minutes remaining in the game when the 6-foot-7 South Carolina forward Kamilla Cardoso pushed the 5-10 LSU guard Johnson following an intentional foul, according to the Associated Press.

In the aftermath of the incident, additional spectators attempted to jump over the wall but were promptly intercepted by officers before reaching the court. These individuals were escorted out of the arena by law enforcement personnel.

As a result of the scuffle, Cardoso was ejected from the game for her involvement in the fight, along with three of her teammates who left the bench area. Additionally, two LSU players who were on the court at the time were also ejected. Ultimately, South Carolina finished the game with six players, while LSU had only five players left on the court.

Following the chaotic events, the victorious Gamecocks celebrated their eighth championship in the past decade, despite the absence of the four players who were sent to the locker room.

As per NCAA rules, Kamilla Cardoso will be sidelined for South Carolina’s next game, which will be their opening match in the NCAA Tournament.
