Memorial Service Planned for Teens Killed in Rancho Cucamonga Car Crash

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) — Friends and family are preparing to gather for a memorial service on Monday to honour the lives of two teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a car crash in Rancho Cucamonga.

The fatal incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. on Friday near Wilson and Haven avenues, close to Chaffey College, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The victims have been identified as siblings Elias and Sarah Cruz, aged 17 and 14 respectively. Both were students at Los Osos High School.

Reports indicate that Elias was driving a white Ford Mustang in a westbound direction on Wilson Avenue when he lost control at an intersection, resulting in the vehicle colliding with a power pole and a tree.

Tragically, Elias and Sarah succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while a 17-year-old male passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The devastating loss has left the community in mourning.

Ray Cruz, the father of the two teenagers, shared his disbelief and shock during a vigil held at the crash site on Saturday. He expressed that the reality of their absence has not fully set in.

“My son was deeply passionate about baseball and was an avid Dodgers fan,” Cruz revealed. “He dedicated much of his time to the sport, whether on the field or in the gym.”

“Sarah, on the other hand, was a bundle of energy,” he continued. “She had a warm embrace for everyone she encountered, whether on the volleyball court or softball field.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist the Cruz family with funeral expenses, and the initiative has garnered over $93,000 in donations.

As the Rancho Cucamonga community prepares to honour the lives of Elias and Sarah Cruz, the memory of the two teenagers will continue to resonate among those who knew and loved them.
