Man Arrested Following Fatal Shooting in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS – A man has been apprehended by authorities following a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of one individual and left another injured in Idaho Falls.

Details of the Incident

On Saturday night, the Idaho Falls 911 Emergency Communications Center received a distressing call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence located in the 100 block of 4th Street. The caller mentioned that a person had entered the property and that two individuals had been shot.

Upon arrival, Idaho Falls Police Officers discovered two adult male victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated by the officers and continued by EMS crews upon their arrival. Both victims were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where unfortunately, one of them succumbed to their injuries.

Suspect Apprehension

Following diligent investigative work, the police were able to identify and locate the suspect at an apartment in the Teton Mesa Apartments situated in the 800 block of Lomax Street later that evening. The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment, refusing to comply with officers’ instructions.

As the situation escalated, the Idaho Falls Police SWAT Team was deployed, and neighbouring residents were evacuated for safety. CS gas was introduced into the residence, leading to the surrender of the suspect, who was taken into custody just after 1:00 a.m.

Additionally, a second individual identified as Blanca Lopez was observed exiting the apartment and attempting to hide in another unit. Lopez was apprehended on pre-existing Bonneville County Warrants at around 3:00 a.m.

Legal Proceedings

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Lance Broncho, is currently under arrest on federal warrants and is expected to face charges related to the homicide, pending further investigation by the authorities. Broncho himself sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the initial incident before engaging with law enforcement. The identities of Broncho’s alleged victims have not yet been disclosed by the police.
