Two Individuals Enter Guilty Pleas in Annapolis Assault Case

Two individuals have pleaded guilty to assault charges after a violent attack and shooting incident that took place in Annapolis’ Harbour House community in September. Kierra Green, aged 33 and hailing from Annapolis, and Darian Humphrey, aged 25 and from Baltimore, entered their guilty pleas in court on Friday.

Swift Judicial Process Leads to Sentencing Dates

The legal proceedings have progressed swiftly, with sentencing dates set for March 27 and 28 before Anne Arundel Circuit Judge Stacy McCormack. Notably, Green and Humphrey are said to be relatives, although the exact nature of their relationship has not been disclosed by law enforcement officials.

Details of the Crime

The incident occurred on September 11, 2023, just before 6 p.m., prompting a response from Annapolis Police officers to the area of President and Frederick Douglass streets following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a trail of blood and a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his arms and legs.

The victim, later identified as an ex-partner of Green’s, was promptly taken to a shock trauma center in Baltimore for treatment. It was revealed that Green had previously lodged assault charges against the victim in the weeks leading up to the shooting.

Surveillance Footage Key to Investigation

Investigators carefully reviewed surveillance footage from Harbour House, which captured the entire shooting incident. The footage showed Humphrey parking a silver Nissan Altima on President Street before meeting with Green, who then directed him towards the victim. Humphrey proceeded to approach the victim and fire multiple shots before fleeing the scene in the Nissan.

Following a tip-off identifying Humphrey as the shooter, law enforcement officials were able to trace the rental vehicle’s registration back to him. A search and seizure warrant executed on the Nissan two days after the shooting yielded crucial evidence linking Humphrey to the crime.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

Green was apprehended on the day of the shooting, while Humphrey was arrested after the search and seizure operation. Green pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, whereas Humphrey entered guilty pleas for first-degree assault and a firearm offense.

Both defendants faced an array of charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit murder and assault. Humphrey also faced multiple firearm-related charges.

Remand in Custody

Since their arrest in September, both Green and Humphrey have been held without bond pending the resolution of their legal proceedings.
