Arrest Made in Connection with Baltimore Homicide Case

27-year-old Dayrel McFarland was apprehended by Baltimore Police Department detectives on Feb. 8, 2024, in connection with the homicide of 37-year-old Jamal Barney.

Authorities suspect that McFarland was responsible for the shooting death of Barney, which occurred on Oct. 2, 2023, in the 500 block of North Payson Street.

Following his arrest, McFarland was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with first-degree murder.

On the afternoon of Oct. 2, 2023, officers from the Western District responded to a call regarding a missing person at a vacant property on North Payson Street.

Upon arrival, authorities were informed that the missing individual, later identified as Jamal Barney, might be located within the premises.

Upon entering the property, law enforcement officers discovered Barney’s lifeless body, showing signs of physical injury.

The deceased victim was later identified as Jamal Barney, born on September 24, 1986, following an examination by the Medical Examiner’s office.

Subsequent investigations led to the determination that Barney’s death was a result of a homicide.
