Valencia Apartment Block Fire Caused by Faulty Kitchen Appliance

Last month’s tragic fire in a Valencia apartment block that claimed the lives of 10 people has been attributed to a faulty kitchen appliance. The secrecy order on the court investigation has been lifted, revealing that the fire was started by an appliance in the kitchen, possibly a refrigerator, according to Pilar Bernabe, the Government delegate in the Valencian Community.

Contrary to earlier reports, the fire was not caused by an electrical short circuit in a balcony awning outside an apartment. The Policia Nacional concluded that there was no criminality involved in the incident, leading the investigating court to end its inquiries.

The fire, which broke out on February 22 in an eighth-floor property in the Campanar district, quickly spread throughout the building due to the materials used in the wall. Insurance company assessors have now been granted permission to enter the damaged building under police supervision for further evaluation.
