BKKBN Urges Stakeholders to Collaborate in Activating Data for Stunting Reduction

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo has emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to activate data in order to accelerate the reduction of stunting in Indonesia.

Accurate and up-to-date data plays a crucial role in designing effective strategies, identifying challenges, and measuring the impacts of interventions. By activating data, the measures taken can be more precise and targeted towards addressing the issue of stunting.

In a statement released by BKKBN, Wardoyo highlighted the significance of utilizing data effectively to maximize benefits and contribute to the development of standardized policies that cater to the needs of all individuals, particularly in the context of reducing the stunting rate in the country.

The agency head mentioned that BKKBN relies on the New Siga (family information system) as its main data source. This operational data is used by family planning officers and other relevant parties to implement interventions in the Family Development, Population, and Family Planning (Bangga Kencana) Program.

Addressing Unmet Family Planning Needs

Wardoyo expressed concern about the unmet need for family planning services, particularly due to health-related reasons that often lead to contraceptive discontinuation. A significant percentage of 55.97 is attributed to health issues, with 13.3 percent of cases observed in individuals aged 30-34 years.

He pointed out that addressing the unmet need for family planning is crucial in the context of reducing stunting, as effective family planning can prevent the birth of stunted children.

The BKKBN head called for a comprehensive approach to investigating and preventing stunting, taking into account factors such as limited access to nutritious food, lack of education on nutrition, and inadequate quality of health services.

Combatting Stunting Through Nutritional Support

Stunting, which results from chronic malnutrition in children, is a reflection of the family’s inability to meet essential nutritional needs during critical stages of human development. It is essential to address this issue through targeted interventions that focus on improving access to nutritious food and enhancing education on proper nutrition.

By utilising data effectively and collaborating with all stakeholders, BKKBN aims to make significant progress in reducing the prevalence of stunting and improving the overall health and well-being of the population.
