Suspect in Iredell County Double Homicide Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a suspect connected to a double homicide in the area has been fatally shot in an altercation with officers.

According to authorities, deputies were called to 109 Home Drive on Saturday where they discovered three victims restrained and bound. Tragically, two individuals, identified as 22-year-old Eduardo Cordova and 24-year-old Caleb Loper, had lost their lives, while a third victim was rushed to a nearby medical facility in critical condition.

Suspect Identified as Justin Michael Strawser

Following an investigation, detectives were led to 1580 Oswalt Amity Road, the residence of the suspect, 39-year-old Justin Michael Strawser. Upon approaching the property, Strawser brandished a firearm and barricaded himself inside before opening fire on deputies with an AR-15 rifle.

It was later revealed that four juveniles were also inside the residence with Strawser, refusing to comply with rescue efforts by law enforcement.

Standoff Ends in Fatal Confrontation

Over the course of several hours, authorities attempted to negotiate with Strawser to surrender peacefully. However, he repeatedly discharged his weapon at deputies from inside the house, causing damage to multiple law enforcement vehicles.

During the standoff, Strawser admitted to his involvement in the double homicide at 109 Home Drive. Eventually, deputies deployed gas into the residence in an effort to force Strawser out. As the juveniles fled the scene, Strawser emerged wearing a bulletproof vest and continued to shoot at officers.

In response to the imminent threat, deputies returned fire, resulting in Strawser being fatally wounded. The juveniles and law enforcement personnel emerged unharmed from the incident.

Investigation Ongoing

Following the officer-involved shooting, three deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Authorities have confirmed that the incident was not a random home invasion, as Strawser and the victims were known to each other, with possible links to narcotics and robbery as motives.

Records indicate that Strawser was scheduled to appear in court in April on charges including felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, altering/stealing/destroying evidence, and drug-related offences. Additionally, he had a court date in May for charges related to felony assault by strangulation and child abuse.
