Christopher Astin Motry, a resident of Flint, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, concealing death of an individual, and domestic violence, as announced by Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton at a press conference held on Monday, March 11.

The chilling discovery was made after a fisherman reported a garbage bag with toes protruding from it on the banks of the Flint River near Whaley Park on March 4.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Christina Barber, a woman from Flint who had gone missing.

Disturbing Details Unfold

According to reports, two days before the body was found, police were alerted to conduct a welfare check on Barber, who had been involved in a dispute with her boyfriend and had not turned up for work in a week.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered Room 18 at the Flint Motel off North Dort Highway covered in blood, with traces of blood on various surfaces.

Interestingly, the room had been rented using Barber’s name, further linking her to the crime scene.

A Tragic End to a Troubled Relationship

Reports suggest that Motry and Barber, who had worked together at a local Burger King, were involved in a tumultuous relationship. Barber, a mother of seven, was reportedly trying to end her affair with Motry, who was married.

Notably, Motry’s wife is not considered a suspect in the case and has cooperated with the authorities.

Justice Prevails

Motry was arraigned on March 8 and is currently being held without bond at the Genesee County Jail. A probable cause conference is scheduled for March 21 to further address the case.

The Flint Motel, where the crime scene was discovered, is located just a short five-minute drive or 3.2 miles away from the spot where Barber’s body was found on the banks of the Flint River.
