Salvador Banales, 27, was on the verge of boarding a flight back to Texas when authorities took him into custody. The tragic collision occurred at around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and North College Avenue in downtown Indianapolis. Responding officers found three pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle, with Breedlove sustaining critical injuries. Despite being rushed to a local hospital with severe head trauma, Breedlove tragically succumbed to his injuries. The two other victims suffered varying degrees of injuries, with one sustaining a concussion and the other a minor hand injury.

Detectives pieced together the events of the hit-and-run by examining debris from the scene, including parts of a passenger side mirror, which indicated a red 2020-2022 Ford Mustang was involved. Surveillance footage from a nearby business further corroborated the vehicle’s involvement, showing it speeding and striking the victims before fleeing the scene.

The investigation took a significant turn when Banales reported his rental car, a 2022 Ford Mustang, as being vandalized between 8 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on the same night of the incident. Subsequent examination of the vehicle revealed extensive damage consistent with the hit-and-run crash downtown, including human tissue and blood on the car’s exterior.

Police swiftly located Banales at the Indianapolis International Airport, where he was preparing to depart for Houston, Texas. During questioning, Banales admitted to consuming alcohol before the crash and fleeing out of fear and panic. Despite acknowledging his reckless actions, Banales failed to stop and render aid to the victims, leading to his arrest on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and causing catastrophic bodily injury while intoxicated.
