Tragic Crash Claims Lives of Nine in Western Wisconsin

On a fateful Friday afternoon in western Wisconsin, tragedy struck on Highway 95, southeast of Eau Claire. A collision between a van and a tractor-trailer resulted in the loss of nine lives, including seven members of an Amish community. The devastating incident left a 2-year-old toddler as the sole survivor, miraculously saved by a good Samaritan.

A Miraculous Rescue

As the van turned into the path of the semi-truck at an intersection, the young boy was thrown from the vehicle. Nathaniel Jahn, the hero who witnessed the crash, acted swiftly to rescue the child. “I think God put me there for a reason,” Jahn shared with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Heartbreaking Loss

Despite Jahn’s heroic efforts, he was unable to save the other occupants of the van as it quickly became engulfed in flames. Tragically, both drivers and seven passengers lost their lives in the fiery crash. The victims, hailing from an Amish community in rural Burke’s Garden, Virginia, ranged in age from six months to 44 years old.

A Community in Mourning

The tight-knit Amish community in Burke’s Garden is reeling from the loss of several of its members in the horrific accident. The van’s passengers included the toddler’s baby sister, both parents, grandmother, and two aunts. The driver, a 45-year-old man from Pounding Mill, Virginia, also lost his life in the crash.

Governor Expresses Condolences

Following the tragic incident, Governor Tony Evers took to social media to express his sorrow. “Kathy and I are saddened today by the fatal crash that occurred in Clark County, tragically taking nine lives,” Evers wrote. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support at the scene.”

As the community mourns the loss of its members, the lone survivor of the crash continues to recover, a poignant reminder of the fragility of life in the face of unforeseen tragedy..
