Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded in Gurugram, Haryana, where a 59-year-old woman lost her life at the hands of her mentally-ill son. The son, identified as Atrish, allegedly stabbed his mother, Ranu Shah, multiple times and set their residence ablaze in a fit of rage after being called “mad” by her.

According to a report by NDTV, the authorities have taken Atrish into custody following the horrific incident. The family resided in Vipul Greens, a high-end apartment complex in Gurugram’s Sector 48. Neighbours revealed that Atrish had been receiving medical treatment for his mental health condition for quite some time and often engaged in heated arguments with his parents.

The tragic turn of events took place when neighbours noticed smoke emanating from the family’s flat late on Sunday. Prompt action was taken as firefighters and police rushed to the scene. After breaking down the door, Shah was rescued with severe burn injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicated that Atrish had a history of attacking his mother in moments of distress. The fatal confrontation reportedly ensued after Shah referred to her son as “mad” on the night of the incident, leading to a violent outburst from the 27-year-old.

Notably, Shah’s husband was not present at the time of the tragic incident. Senior police officer Mayank Gupta stated that Atrish would undergo a mental health evaluation before any further legal proceedings are initiated in the case.

Sadly, this incident mirrors a similar tragedy that occurred in Maharashtra’s Latur city last month. A 69-year-old woman lost her life at the hands of her mentally-ill son, who fatally struck her with a stick. The son had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues over the past 12 years.

These heartbreaking incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support systems for individuals grappling with such conditions. The authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both cases to ensure justice is served.
