23-Year-Old Murder Suspect Dies After Police Shooting in Tirunelveli

A 23-year-old murder suspect, K Petchidurai, tragically passed away while receiving treatment at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital following a police shooting incident in the district. The young man, a resident of Thenthirupuvanam, was shot in the leg by district police officers and succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The incident unfolded when Petchidurai, along with his accomplice R Chandru, reportedly attacked a road worker named C Karuppasamy near Vellankuli. The duo allegedly used a sickle to fatally wound Karuppasamy and also caused injuries to another worker named A Venkatesh. In addition to the violent attack, they damaged the windshield of a car and a government bus before attempting to flee the scene.

Law enforcement officers intervened to apprehend the suspects, but the situation escalated when Petchidurai and Chandru resisted arrest and even attacked a police constable named Senthil. In response to the threat posed by the suspects, the police were forced to use their firearms, resulting in Petchidurai being shot in the leg. The authorities were able to arrest both individuals and transport Petchidurai to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Despite the medical efforts to save his life, Petchidurai remained in critical condition for four days before ultimately succumbing to his injuries on Monday. The Veeravanallur police department has initiated legal proceedings against Petchidurai and Chandru for their involvement in the murder of Karuppasamy and the subsequent acts of vandalism.
