Tragic Events Unfold in Ottawa as International Student Charged with Killing Family

A 19-year-old international student from Sri Lanka, Febrio De-Zoysa, has been charged with the brutal killings of a family in Ottawa, Canada. The victims, Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, his wife Darshani Ekanyake, and their four young children, were found dead in their home in Barrhaven.

Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, who had recently reunited with his family after spending several years alone in Canada, was left devastated by the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful day. The family’s local temple resident monk, Bhante Suneetha, described Wickramasinghe as being in a state of great shock and disbelief.

According to reports, Wickramasinghe was attacked by De-Zoysa with a knife-like object, resulting in severe injuries including stab wounds to his chest and back, as well as the loss of one of his fingers. Despite his own injuries, Wickramasinghe managed to confront De-Zoysa and demand to know the status of his family. Tragically, he discovered that his entire family, including a family friend, Gamini Amarakoon Amarakoon Mudiyanselage, had been brutally murdered.

The Suspect

Febrio De-Zoysa, who had been living with the Wickramasinghe family in their basement, now faces six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. De-Zoysa, also a Sri Lankan national, was described as a former student at Algonquin College. His sudden and tragic turn of events has left many in shock and disbelief, including his own relatives.

De-Zoysa’s aunt, Anusha, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating that the Wickramasinghe family had been incredibly kind to her nephew. She recounted how the family had celebrated De-Zoysa’s birthday together just a few weeks prior to the tragic events.

Community Support

In the wake of this horrific tragedy, the Ottawa Sri Lankan community has come together to support Dhanushka Wickramasinghe in his time of need. Described as a kind and helpful man, Wickramasinghe has received an outpouring of public support as he begins his emotional recovery process.

As the investigation into this devastating incident continues, De-Zoysa is scheduled to appear in court on March 13. The community mourns the loss of a loving family and seeks justice for the victims of this senseless act of violence.
