19-Year-Old BC Man Killed in Avalanche Near Canmore

A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Kananaskis Country near Canmore, as a 19-year-old man from Kelowna, BC lost his life in an avalanche.

According to Canmore RCMP, the authorities were alerted to the avalanche east of the Mount Engadine Lodge on Tower Peak in Kananaskis just before 8:30 pm on Sunday.

Investigations revealed that two men were skiing in the backcountry when the avalanche struck around 1 pm. While one of the men managed to free himself from the snow, the other was not as fortunate and was buried under the avalanche.

Efforts to locate the missing man continued, and at 9:45 am the following morning, Canmore RCMP, in collaboration with Kananaskis Mountain Rescue, successfully recovered his body.
