ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – In a bizarre turn of events, two Ohio women have been arrested after confessing to police that they drove the body of an elderly man to a bank and then left it at a hospital.
The deceased man has been identified as 80-year-old Douglas Layman, a resident of Ashtabula.
According to Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell, Layman lived with the two women, Loreen Feralo and Karen Casbohm.
The women claimed they discovered Layman’s lifeless body on Monday, March 4. They then placed him in a vehicle, propped him up, and drove to the bank to withdraw funds from his account.
Following their visit to the bank, Feralo and Casbohm purportedly dropped Layman’s body at the Ashtabula County Medical Center without providing any identification.
It wasn’t until several hours later that one of the women contacted the hospital with Layman’s details.
Subsequently, officers were dispatched to the residence where Feralo and Cashbohm were interviewed. Based on their account of events, the women were charged with theft and gross abuse of a corpse.
Chief Stell mentioned that additional charges are currently being considered.
