RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) — Two teenage siblings tragically lost their lives in a devastating single-car accident in Rancho Cucamonga. The community has come together to support the grieving family in this difficult time.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Wilson and Haven Avenues, close to Chaffey College. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

The siblings have been identified as Elias and Sarah Cruz, aged 17 and 14 respectively. Both were students at Los Osos High School.

According to authorities, Elias was behind the wheel of a white Ford Mustang travelling westbound on Wilson Avenue when he lost control at the intersection. The vehicle collided with a power pole and a tree, resulting in the tragic deaths of Elias and Sarah at the scene. Another 17-year-old male passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A Heartbroken Father’s Testimony

Ray Cruz, the father of the deceased siblings, shared his sorrow with Eyewitness News at a candlelight vigil held at the crash site on Saturday. He expressed his disbelief and the overwhelming reality of his loss.

Cruz fondly remembered his children for their individuality and warmth of character.

“My son was a dedicated baseball enthusiast and supporter,” Cruz recalled. “He was passionate about the Dodgers and baseball in general. He spent countless hours on the field, at the gym, and in the game.”

“Sarah was a bundle of energy,” he continued. “She had a kind word and a hug for everyone. Whether on the volleyball court or softball field, she was a friend to all.”

Numerous classmates of Elias and Sarah attended the vigil to pay their respects, leaving flowers and heartfelt messages in remembrance of their beloved friends.

To assist the grieving family with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched and has raised over £40,000.

The description on the GoFundMe page reads, “Elias and Sarah lived lives filled with love, vitality, and promise. It is our wish to give them a fitting memorial and bid them a peaceful farewell.”

The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the tragic accident.
