Memphis Police Department Arrests Suspect in Officer Shooting
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis Police Department has arrested and charged the man who reportedly shot an officer earlier this week. The suspect, identified as Geronimo Kee, has been taken into custody following a dramatic incident that unfolded on March 8.
The incident occurred when Lt. Bobby Johnson, an on-duty officer, pulled over a vehicle driven by Kee for speeding. Johnson asked Kee for his license and registration, and upon receiving them, proceeded to write a citation for the violation. However, things took a dangerous turn when Kee refused to comply with Johnson’s requests to roll down his window.
Despite Johnson’s repeated instructions, Kee adamantly refused to roll down his window, stating, “You’re going to have to kill me.” In response, Johnson warned Kee that he would be arrested and the window would be broken if he did not comply. When Kee still did not cooperate, Johnson broke the driver’s side window, prompting Kee to open fire, striking Johnson.
Johnson was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but has since stabilized. Kee has been charged with attempted murder and is currently being held on a $175,000 bond as the investigation continues.
