The Tragic Incident in Sungai Batang Baleh, Kapit

In a devastating turn of events, a longboat capsized in Sungai Batang Baleh in Kapit on Thursday, leading to the disappearance of four individuals. The search operation for the missing victims has been ongoing, with some heartbreaking discoveries made in the past few days.

Discoveries in the Search Operation

On Saturday, the search operation yielded three bodies, two of which were found more than 100km away from the location of the incident. Among the victims identified were Sjn Jonathan Lambert, 51, and Jack Balan, 45. Sjn Jonathan’s body was found near the Kapit express boat terminal, with his pistol by his side. Jack Balan was the first victim found by the public in the waters of Pulau Kerto, Sibu, a significant distance away from the initial incident site.

Continued Search Efforts

Despite the discoveries, one victim remains missing, and search operations have been temporarily suspended. The third body was discovered in the waters near Bintangor but drifted away and was later found by a marine police team in Batang Lebaan, almost 200km away from the initial location. The search for the remaining victim will resume as soon as possible.

The Victims and the Tragic Incident

The longboat that capsized on Thursday afternoon was carrying five individuals, including two police personnel from the Kapit district police headquarters. The victims included Sjn Jonathan Lambet, Konst Iskandar Ibrahim, Amerson John Nain, Jack Balan, and Moses Ngui. Moses Ngui was the only survivor, rescued by the public when the boat capsized.
