JAJPUR: A horrific incident unfolded in the quiet village of Jamadhar in Jajpur district, as an elderly man, identified as Kalandi Mallick (62), was mercilessly hacked to death by a mentally unstable youth on Sunday. The perpetrator, Surendra Behera (32), a resident of Jamadhar village, has been apprehended by the authorities.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Reports indicate that Surendra, who has been described as mentally challenged, was seen wandering around the village with a chopper in hand since Friday. The unfortunate turn of events occurred when Kalandi was returning home after a meeting with the local sarpanch, Badal Khuntia, and was attacked by Surendra in front of his residence in Swapneswarpur village. The brutal assault resulted in Kalandi suffering a fatal neck injury, leading to his immediate demise.

Swift Police Response and Arrest

Upon receiving information from the villagers, the Jajpur Sadar police swiftly arrived at the scene and took Surendra into custody. The murder weapon, the chopper used in the heinous crime, was confiscated by the authorities.
