Discovery at Ashtabula County Medical Center

The shocking incident unfolded on Monday evening when police were called to the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room after two women dropped off a body without identifying the deceased or themselves. Hours later, the body was identified as that of 80-year-old Douglas Layman of Ashtabula.

Details of the Investigation

Upon investigating, officers found that Casbohm and Feralo claimed to have found Layman deceased in the home they all shared. Allegedly, with the help of a third unnamed person, they placed Layman in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank to withdraw money from his account. The body was positioned in a way that would be visible to bank staff during the withdrawal.

Motive Unclear

Lt. Mike Palinkas revealed that one of the women had a live-in relationship with Layman for several years, while the other had been staying at the residence for a few months. The women mentioned that it was normal for them to access the account, but the exact reason for their actions that day remains unclear.

Legal Proceedings

Casbohm has been arraigned and is being held on a $5,000 bond, while Feralo is scheduled for arraignment next week. It is uncertain whether they have legal representation at this time. Authorities continue to investigate the case, and additional charges may be forthcoming. The coroner’s office has stated that an autopsy to determine the cause of Layman’s death could take up to eight months.
