Ohio Women Accused of Driving Dead Man to Bank in Weekend at Bernie’s-style Incident

In a bizarre turn of events reminiscent of the classic 1989 film Weekend at Bernie’s, two women from Ohio have found themselves in hot water after allegedly driving a dead man to a bank to withdraw money from his account.

Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, have been charged with gross abuse of a corpse in Ashtabula. The incident came to light when the police received a call about two women dropping off a body at a hospital. The deceased was identified as Douglas Layman, 80, from Ashtabula.

According to the police, Casbohm and Feralo, who lived with Layman, claimed they had found him dead at home earlier in the day. They then proceeded to place Layman’s body in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank with a drive-through window. It is alleged that they withdrew money from Layman’s account while his body was visible to bank staff.

Police Chief Robert Stell stated in a news release that the bank had allowed the women to make withdrawals in the past as long as Layman was present. It was revealed that one of the women had a romantic relationship with Layman, while the other had been staying with them for a few months and frequently accessed his funds.

Interestingly, the 1989 film Weekend at Bernie’s follows a similar premise where two men try to conceal their boss’s death by pretending he is still alive during a weekend party.

Casbohm was held on a $5,000 bond, while Feralo is set to be arraigned next week. The coroner’s office mentioned that an autopsy to determine the cause of Layman’s death could take up to eight months.

It is a truly bizarre and shocking case that has left many questioning the motives and actions of the two women involved. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case unfolds.
