Tragic Turn of Events: Victim Dies Following Stabbing in Kingsport

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — A victim who was previously reported to be in stable condition has tragically passed away following a stabbing incident in Kingsport. The Kingsport Police Department (KPD) confirmed the death of Martha De La Riva on Saturday morning, citing complications related to the injuries she sustained from the attack.

The KPD identified the perpetrator as De La Riva’s son, William Clark. The release from the KPD stated that De La Riva’s uncle, Phillip Pendleton, who was also injured in the attack, remains in stable condition. Charges against Clark have now been escalated to first-degree murder in light of De La Riva’s passing.

The harrowing attack took place on Wednesday in the 300 block of Sequoyah Drive, where KPD officers discovered the victims suffering from severe head injuries, likely caused by stab wounds and/or blunt force trauma. Initially, both victims were reported to be in stable condition on Thursday, but De La Riva’s condition deteriorated, leading to her untimely death.

The KPD has confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing as they seek to uncover the full details surrounding the attack and bring justice to the victims.
