Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder in Thursday Shooting

A Goldsboro man has been apprehended without bail and is now facing serious charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a shooting incident that took place on Thursday.

Early Thursday morning, at around 8:34, Goldsboro Police Department officers swiftly responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the vicinity of Olivia Lane and Audubon Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Bennell Garner, a 39-year-old resident of Goldsboro, and Latesha Pearsall, aged 32, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Garner and Pearsall were promptly transported to UNC Health Wayne, and later transferred to ECU Health for further medical attention.

Following the arrival of investigators and the Crime Scene Unit, a thorough investigation was initiated at the scene. Garner and Pearsall are currently listed in critical condition.

A third victim, Azia Cobb, aged 39, along with a one-year-old boy, were also identified as victims in this tragic incident.

Arrest and Charges

After an extensive investigation into the shooting incident, authorities obtained warrants for the arrest of James Edward Darden, a 34-year-old resident of Goldsboro.

Darden now faces multiple charges, including four counts of attempted murder, three counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and three counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

He was apprehended at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday by investigators at the Goldsboro Police Department and taken into custody.

Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Darden was transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s office for the warrants to be served. He has been remanded to the Wayne County Detention Center without bond, pending a scheduled first appearance in court on Monday.
