Tragic Incident at Maha Shivaratri Procession in Kota

Kota (Rajasthan): Authorities in Kota have taken swift action following a tragic incident at the Maha Shivaratri procession, where 16 children and two others suffered burn injuries due to electrocution. The police have lodged a case of culpable homicide against three organisers of the procession, as reported on Saturday.

Reports indicate that the injuries occurred as a result of high-tension power lines, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident. The local discom has been asked to provide a detailed report on the standard of the power lines involved.

One of the victims, a 12-year-old girl with 5-10 per cent burn injuries, is currently receiving treatment in the burn injuries ward. Meanwhile, other injured individuals are also being cared for in various hospitals, with the condition of five children in critical condition reported to be stable.

Medical professionals are closely monitoring the patients, with a team of specialists including general surgeons, paediatricians, and plastic surgeons overseeing their care. The patients are receiving necessary support and treatment to aid in their recovery.

The tragic incident unfolded when children, aged between 10-16 years old, came into contact with a high-tension power line passing overhead in the Sakatpura area of Kota. The severity of the injuries prompted some of the critically injured children to be transferred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for advanced medical care.

In response to the incident, both the state government and local administration have launched investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the electrocution. Additionally, police have taken legal action against the organisers of the ‘Shiv Barat’ procession, based on a complaint filed by a parent of one of the injured children.

The organisers, identified as Badrilal, Babulal, and Gopal from the Sakatpura area, are facing charges of culpable homicide and endangering human life. Authorities are working diligently to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

It is imperative that safety measures are strictly enforced during public events to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
