Details of the Incident
According to reports, Bhadra was asleep in her home when the wild tusker approached her house in search of paddy grains. Upon sensing the danger, she attempted to flee, but the elephant pursued her and ultimately trampled her to death. The forest department was alerted to the incident and promptly arrived at the scene to retrieve the body for post-mortem examination.

This unfortunate incident adds to a series of recent conflicts between elephants and humans in Odisha. Earlier this year, a 72-year-old man was similarly trampled to death by a wild elephant in Khaerpada village. The elderly man was sleeping in his house when the elephant broke through the wall and fatally attacked him.
In another alarming incident, a herd of 12 elephants, including two tuskers, wreaked havoc in Dharakote, Shergarh, and Sadangipalli areas of the Aska range in the South Ghumusar forest division of Ganjam district. The elephants destroyed villagers’ homes and consumed harvested paddy, causing significant damage to the community. Additionally, a cyclist in Sadangipalli village was severely injured after being attacked by the rampaging herd.
