Explosion Rocks Car Garage in Basaveshwara Nagar

Residents of West of Chord Road in Basaveshwara Nagar were left in shock on Saturday evening as an explosion ripped through a car garage located on the ground floor of a three-storey residential building.

The incident, suspected to have been triggered by a gas welding machine, quickly escalated as the fire spread to the vehicles stored in the garage, leading to a series of explosions. Among the injured were the garage owner, George, and his assistant, Shivu, along with two others.

The intensity of the blast was such that the windows and doors of the building rattled, causing panic among the residents in the vicinity. A witness, who was observing the fire from a nearby building and recording it on his mobile phone, described the initial moments as deceptively calm before chaos ensued with the sudden explosion.

Upon receiving the emergency call, two fire tenders rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames before swiftly transporting the injured individuals to the nearest hospital for treatment. S. Girish, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the west division, accompanied by officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), arrived at the site to oversee the investigation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a gas leak from the welding machine may have been the root cause of the fire. However, a thorough inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident. Authorities are also scrutinising any potential violations by the garage owner, with appropriate actions to be taken accordingly, as stated by a police spokesperson.
