Ohio Women Accused of Driving Deceased Man’s Body to Bank in Ashtabula

Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, stand accused of driving the body of an 80-year-old man to a bank to withdraw money from his account before dropping his body off at a hospital.

The shocking events unfolded on Monday evening when police received a call about two women dropping off a body at the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room without providing any identification. It was only hours later that one of the women contacted the hospital with information about the deceased individual, who was later identified as 80-year-old Douglas Layman of Ashtabula.

Details of the Disturbing Incident

Upon investigating, officers learned that Casbohm and Feralo claimed to have found Layman deceased at the residence where all three lived. Allegedly, with the assistance of a third unnamed individual, they placed Layman in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank to withdraw money from his account. It is reported that they withdrew an undisclosed amount of money, with Layman’s body positioned in a way that would be visible to bank staff.

Motives and Background

Lt. Mike Palinkas revealed that one of the women had been in a live-in relationship with Layman for several years, while the other had been staying at the residence for a few months. The women claimed that taking money from Layman’s account was a normal occurrence, but authorities are still puzzled as to why they decided to visit the bank on that particular day.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigation

Casbohm has already been arraigned and is being held on US$5,000 bond, while Feralo is scheduled for arraignment next week. The women’s legal representation remains unclear at this time.
