Ohio Women Accused of Driving Deceased Man’s Body to Bank for Money Withdrawal
ASHTABULA, Ohio — Two women from Ohio have been charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft from a person in a protected class after allegedly driving the body of an 80-year-old man to a bank to withdraw money from his account before dropping his body off at a hospital.
Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, were taken into custody in Ashtabula and are facing serious legal consequences for their actions, as per Ashtabula Municipal Court records.
The incident came to light when the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room received an unexpected drop-off of a deceased man without any identification. The man was later identified as 80-year-old Douglas Layman of Ashtabula.
Details of the Incident
According to the Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell, Casbohm and Feralo, along with another unidentified individual, placed Layman’s body in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank to withdraw money from his account. The bank staff was allegedly aware of the situation and allowed the withdrawal to take place.

Investigations revealed that one of the women had been in a live-in relationship with Layman for several years, while the other had been staying at the residence for a few months. They claimed that taking money from Layman’s account was a regular occurrence, but the motive for the particular incident remains unclear.
Legal Proceedings
Casbohm has already been arraigned and is being held on a $5,000 bond, while Feralo is scheduled for arraignment next week. It is currently unknown if they have legal representation. The county public defender’s office has been contacted for comment.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and additional charges may be filed in due course. The coroner’s office has stated that determining the cause of Layman’s death through an autopsy could take up to eight months.
