On a fateful Saturday morning, a heartbreaking incident unfolded near the Janata Vasahat area in Pune, where a 14-year-old boy lost his life to the waters of a canal. The serene surroundings of Bhavani Peth were shattered by the unfortunate turn of events that claimed the life of Chaitanya Vivek Kirad.
The peaceful waters of the canal near Janata Vasahat turned into a scene of tragedy as Kirad and his group of friends decided to cool off by taking a dip at around 11:30 am. However, what started as a fun outing quickly turned into a nightmare as Kirad found himself struggling in the water, unable to swim to safety.
Despite the valiant efforts of his friends to rescue him, Kirad tragically succumbed to the unforgiving depths of the canal. The distress call to the fire brigade at 11:50 am set off a race against time to locate Kirad and bring him back to shore.
Prashant Gaikar, one of the firemen involved in the search operation, recounted the harrowing moments, stating, “Kirad didn’t know how to swim. After almost two hours, we recovered his body from the canal water and sent it for further post mortem, marking the end of a tragic chapter in Pune’s history.”
